چکیده
Abstract Tephritid fruit flies (Diptera; Tephritidae) represent a group of insects that include some the most economically important pests in horticulture. Because their economic importance, financial impacts an incursion tephritid into new area can often result restrictions to trade. The any trade imposed by importing countries are confounded current absence consistent and accepted criteria for strength extent declaring end incursion. author has developed models be used establish management fly outbreaks as outlined international standards. A model enables on when recognise occurred export restrictions. Another determines what or radius restriction zone (ERZ) should cover. And third establishes conditions required enable ERZ rescinded area’s pest free status reinstated. rely primarily biology effectiveness surveillance trapping systems. adoption these proposed internationally establishing control system responding would provide considerable benefits Additionally, make more informed cost–benefit decisions level investment systems better reflects risks economy.

Currently approved irradiation quarantine treatment doses for Bactrocera cucurbitae (Coquillet), melon fly; Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann), Mediterranean fruit fly; and Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel), oriental fruit fly, infesting fruits and vegetables for export from Hawaii to the continental United States are 210, 225, and 250 Gy, respectively. Irradiation studies were initiated to determine wh...
متن کاملTranscriptome of the egg parasitoid Fopius arisanus: an important biocontrol tool for Tephritid fruit fly suppression
BACKGROUND The Braconid wasp Fopius arisanus (Sonan) has been utilized for biological control of the Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata), and the oriental fruit fly (Bactrocera dorsalis), both of which are phytophagous fruit fly pests of economic importance in many tropical and subtropical regions of the world. We have sequenced and assembled the transcriptome of this wasp using tissue...
متن کاملExceptional longevity in the tephritid, Ceratitis rosa, a close relative of the Mediterranean fruit fly.
This study shows that the fruit fly, Ceratitis rosa (Karsch), has a significantly longer life span than the medfly, C. capitata (Wiedemann); the species used as a model organism for the demographics of insect aging. This was somewhat surprising given that both have similar distributions and overlapping niches. We postulate that the greater longevity of C. rosa is related to the fact that it can...

This paper reports for the first time an ichneumonid parasitoid Calliephialtes sittenfeldae Gauld Ugalde-Gómez et Hanson (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) associated with a dipteran host Anastrepha spatulata Stone (Diptera: Tephritidae), recovered from fruit of Schoepfia schreberi (Santalales: Olacaceae) in central Veracruz, Mexico. Large numbers of this parasitoid were collected and reared from its...
متن کاملThe biology of nonfrugivorous tephritid fruit flies.
This review is the first comprehensive treatment of the biology of nonfrugivorous fruit flies of the family Tephritidae. Feeding habits of destructive and useful species, morphology of immature stages, and hypotheses regarding structural homology and the evolutionary biology of nonfrugivorous tephritids are reviewed, including zoogeography and theories involving resource heterogeneity, guild st...
